The Market Leader in CBAM Compliance & Delivery

The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is reshaping global trade. Compliance is complex, data-driven, & enforceable; & the consequences of getting it wrong are real.

Allied CBAM is the market leader in delivering all things CBAM, supporting businesses across the EU, UK, & international supply chains with complete, defensible, & future ready compliance solutions.

What is CBAM?

CBAM is an EU regulation that places a carbon cost on certain imported goods, ensuring they are treated on an equal footing with EU-produced products. Importers must report the embedded greenhouse gas emissions in CBAM goods and, from 2026, purchase CBAM certificates to cover those emissions.

The UK has confirmed the introduction of UK CBAM from 2027, extending carbon-based trade controls to imports into Great Britain.

CBAM is no longer a future consideration – it is a live compliance obligation.

What is CBAM?
Affects of CBAM?

Who CBAM Affects

CBAM applies to businesses that import, trade, or supply CBAM-covered goods, including: EU importers of record – UK exporters supplying the EU market – Importers using agents, intermediaries, or indirect routes – Supply chains required to provide verified emissions data.

Covered sectors currently include iron and steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers, hydrogen, and electricity, with expansion expected.

If CBAM goods touch your supply chain, CBAM affects your business.

Why CBAM Compliance Is Critical

Why CBAM Compliance Is Critical
Non-compliance can result in: Regulatory penalties and enforcement action – Delays or disruptions at customs – Increased scrutiny from authorities – Reputational and commercial risk – Uncontrolled CBAM cost exposure from 2026 onward

CBAM sits at the intersection of customs, taxation, sustainability, and trade regulation – specialist expertise is essential.

FAQ’s

Why is the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism being put in place?

The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is beingintroduced to stop companies from moving production to countries with weaker climate rules (carbon leakage). It ensures imported goods pay a carbon cost similar to EU/UK products, protecting the internal markets of both territories. This helps keep the EU and UK’s climate goals on track. The Carbon footprint of the raw materials need to be reported on import.

Which sectors does the CBAM Regulation apply?

The CBAM Regulation currently applies to sectors with high carbon intensity and a high risk of carbon leakage, including:

  • Iron & Steel
  • Cement
  • Aluminium
  • Fertilisers
  • Electricity
  • Hydrogen

These are the initial sectors covered, with potential for more to be added over time.

Who is responsible for, and how are the carbon emissions reported?

The EU importer (or their Authorised CBAM Declarant) is legally responsible for reporting the embedded carbon emissions of the goods they import into the EU.

They may collect data from non-EU manufacturers, but the obligation sits with the EU importer, not the producer.

Emissions are reported through the EU CBAM Transitional Registry (and later the CBAM Portal).

Importers must submit:

• Quarterly CBAM Reports (during the transitional phase)

• From 2026: Annual CBAM Declarations, including verified emissions

What is an authorised CBAM declarant?

An Authorised BAM Declarant is an EU approved person or company responsible for importing

CBAM goods into the EU and handling all CBAM obligations. They report the embedded emissions, buy and surrender CBAM certificates, and submit the annual CBAM declaration. Usually this is the EU importer or their appointed representative.

What are the risks of not reporting CBAM emissions?

Not reporting CBAM emissions can lead to heavy financial penalties, import delays or blocks of goods entering the EU, loss of Authorised CBAM Declarant status, higher costs due to default emissions, and serious legal or reputational damage.
