What is CBAM?

CBAM or (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) is a new EU carbon tax being introduced on imported goods with high carbon emissions.

The legislation is designed to place a carbon cost on products imported into the EU such as steel, cement, aluminium, fertiliser, electricity and hydrogen.

In simple terms, CBAM means businesses could be required to pay a “carbon tax” based on how much carbon was produced during the manufacturing of imported goods.

Companies will need to understand their supply chain emissions, collect carbon data from suppliers and submit regular carbon reports.

Businesses that fail to prepare could face devastating financial penalties, unexpected costs and disruption to their operations.
