ICS2 is now live, and it brings a clear change to how goods move into the EU.
ICS2 (Import Control System 2) requires safety and security data to be submitted before goods arrive at the EU border. This applies to movements by road, rail, and RoRo, including goods moving from Great Britain into the EU.
Under ICS2, carriers must submit an Entry Summary Declaration (ENS) using more detailed and structured data than before. This includes:
– Accurate product descriptions
– Correct commodity codes
– Clear consignor and consignee details
– Consistent invoice and transport information
If this information is missing, unclear, or inconsistent, the ENS cannot be completed correctly.
ICS2 is designed to move checks earlier in the process. Instead of issues being identified at the border, the system assesses risk before goods arrive, using the data provided in advance.
For businesses, this means the quality of information at the start of each shipment matters more than ever. Product data, supplier details, and documentation all need to be complete and accurate before goods move.
